5 Must-Have Experiences with Kids at Jekyll Island Club Hotel

Jekyll-Island-Club-2

The Jekyll Island Club Hotel

Our family revisited Jekyll Island recently, and we adored staying at the landmark Jekyll Island Club Hotel. Many people ask whether this historic, luxury escape is suitable for kids. Yes! Yes! Yes! Jekyll Island Club originated as the social club to the elite in the late 1800s and early 1900s. It catered to businessmen, politicians, socialites…and their families. That family-friendly spirit is still alive today.

I encourage you to visit with your family, and when you do, don’t miss these five family-friendly adventures at Jekyll Island Club Hotel.

Play croquet on the lawn at Jekyll Island Club Hotel

Play Croquet on the Great Lawn

On the great lawn of the hotel, guests can practice their stroke on the striker ball with a round of croquet. Kids will love learning how to play this 19th century game. Just ask the bellman for equipment.

Take Afternoon Tea in the Grand Dining Room

The Grand Dining Room is quite elegant, but don’t be shy. There is a kiddo menu, and family is always welcome. For a special treat, make reservations for the afternoon Victorian Tea. You’ll choose from a selection of homemade finger sandwiches, scones with crème fraiche, and assorted jams, mini pastries and petit fours. Mmmm.

Snack on Hot Dogs and Ice Cream at the Private Beach Pavilion

While Jekyll Island Club Hotel doesn’t sit directly on the beach, you can still enjoy the Atlantic in luxury at the hotel’s beachfront facility exclusively for guests. Enjoy burgers, hot dogs, beverages and ice cream. No need to haul beach chairs and umbrellas, as they are available, as well as towels and restrooms. The hotel even offers a complimentary shuttle.

Snuggle by the Fireplace in your Room

Many of the rooms at Jekyll Island Club Hotel feature wood-burning fireplaces. For a nominal fee, the staff will come and build your fire. Our boys created a nest of pillows on the original hardwood floors of our San Souci cottage, snuggling to enjoy the warmth while Hubby and I enjoyed a glass of wine. Pure bliss.

Splash in the On-site Pool

If you’re ready to take a break from the salty sea water, splash about it the hotel’s outdoor pool. Relax with lawn chairs, towels and bites from the seasonal Pool Bar and Grill.
